Get more free with every domain!
YourChurchWeb.net is pleased to announce that you now get more free with every domain purchase (or renewal)! Read this article to learn how you might benefit from these changes: - For the past two years, customers have received a free, 25mb "Complete Email" with every domain. We've quadrupled the size of this account--and you can now store 100mb of email online. This is a $9.99 value.
- 100-pack email forwarding - Add flexibility to your email management using forwards. Church leaders can have mail forwarded to them from an "official" address, small groups can be contacted with a single email address, and more. A $21.40 value.
- Domain masking and forwarding - Are you hosting your site elsewhere? If you're using a free webhost that gives you a complex URL that's hard to remember, you can forward your domain to point to your website, and mask it so that your visitors never see the underlying URL.
- Domain services - You have total DNS control, ability to change registrant information, the flexibility to set your domain for automatic or manual renewal, and the security of being able to lock your domain from being transferred.
The following products are fully featured versions of the products you can purchase. In exchange for the free product, an advertisement for YourChurchWeb.net will appear on every page. While most churches would prefer the cleaner look with no advertisement, this is a way we can assist churches with limited resources. For less than $10/yr, a church can have a domain, email, webhosting, photo storage, and more. - Free Online Photo Filer - Store, sort, share, publish, and print your favorite photos, right from your own personalized domain. This free version provides you with 1GB of storage space and 25GB of monthly data transfer. A $9.99 value.
- Free Quick Blogcast - Ideal for people interested in starting a blog or podcast, this easy publishing platform allows you to share your thoughts, devotions, or sermons with a wider audience. You receive 300MB of space, and 15GB of monthly data transfer. A $41.28 value.
- Free WebSite Tonight - Get a 5-page website and online creation tool. You don't need special HTML skills, but can simply design and write your website in a matter of hours. You get 50MB of space, and 1GB of monthly data transfer. A $59.88 value.
OR
Free Shared Hosting - If you want to design your own site, you can use this free version of our Economy Hosting Plan. Get 5GB of space, and 250GB of monthly data transfer in either a Windows or Linux hosting platform. Upload content by FTP, and you're ready to go! A $71.88 value.
That's more than $100 worth of free tools and utilities that comes with every domain registration at YourChurchWeb.net. Register your domain today for just $8.99 (+ a $.20 ICANN fee)/year. If you're already a YourChurchWeb.net customer, you will see these new products appear in your account the next time your renew your domain. Registry Price Increase
YourChurchWeb.net is committed to offering a quality product at an affordable price for churches and Christian ministries. We are continually working to offer the best sales, promotions, and even the ocassional price reduction in order to meet the needs of our customers. However, sometimes situations outside of our control force us to make slight increases in our prices. On April 5, 2007, ICANN approved a price increase for certain registries (.com, .net, .org, .info, and .biz). While we've worked hard to minimize the effect of this pricing change on our customers, we will have to make nominal increases in our pricing in order to cover these costs. Effective October 15, 2007, the prices for these TLDs will be $8.99/yr (plus an ICANN fee of $.20/yr). Thank you for choosing YourChurchWeb.net for all your web-hosting needs. A Cautionary Tale...
Last Friday, I got a piece of mail from a company called "Domain Registry of America." It looked like a bill for the domain renewal of one of my domains. "This is odd," I thought, "since all of my domains are registered through me!" And then I remembered that one of my clients had emailed me a couple of weeks ago about this very same mailing. They wanted to know if they needed to pay that bill or not. In reality, this particular piece of mail was not a bill, but an advertisement disguised as a bill. Basically, this company was hoping that I would fill out that thing that looked like a bill, and send my payment to them. In doing so, they would initiate a transfer of my domain, and I would become their customer. Domain Registry of America wanted to charge me $30 for a one year registration for my domain name. That's over $20 more than you would pay to register your name through YourChurchWeb.net. (You may have seen similar sorts of mailings from all sorts of companies attempting to look like "the Yellow Pages." On closer look, most of those companies are fairly low-traffic online directories that charge exhorbitant rates to be listed with them.) My point? Be very careful when you hand bills to your church treasurer. They may not recognize a legitimate bill from a solicitation--and you may find yourself agreeing to move your domain name, simply because you paid something that was designed to look like a bill. ICANN Lowers Registrar Transaction Fee - Retroactive!
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has lowered their Registrar Transaction Fee from $.25 to $.22, retroactively to July 1, 2006. Since this fee is passed directly to you in the registration/renewal process, we will be issuing credits in the amount of the appropriate refund. In the near future, you will be credited with $.03/yr for each domain you registered through our storefront during the appropriate time period. This is an in-store credit, which will be applied to any future purchases you make during the next twelve months. Our customer service department may need to contact you about this credit, so please be sure your contact information for your customer account is current. I know this isn't a huge amount of money--but if you registered multiple domain names for multiple years, those $.03 per domain name year really add up! If you have any questions, please contact our customer support department at 480-624-2500. Labels: domains, ICANN, prices

Domain Name Renewals: A Cautionary Tale...
Today I received in the mail a notice that one of my domain names is up for renewal in a couple months. I wanted to share with you a bit about that renewal notice, because there is something important for all of us to be aware of. Here it is: The mail was not from my registrar - it was from a different company altogether. The mail was designed to look like a bill - in fact, it even had a place to print my credit card information, and check off how many years I was registering for. But midway down the page there was a notice in the middle of a paragraph: This is not a bill, it is rather an easy means of payment should you decide to renew your domain name with...In other words, these people are hoping I won't notice that they aren't my registrar, and I'll fill out the form without realizing that I'm actually requesting that my domain name be transferred to a different registrar. Here's what scares me. I know absolutely nothing about these people, and yet if I fell for their sales pitch, I'd end up giving them my credit card information. This could just as easily be a form of identity theft as it could be a legitimate domain registrar. Certainly, since the setup of their mailing is designed to fool us, we know that their level of trustworthiness is very low. Would I give them my credit card information? Absolutely not. All that aside, they were charging more than twice the price for a domain renewal as I'm paying through YourChurchWeb. My point in this cautionary tale is this: know who you are doing business with. When you receive mail and email notices regarding your domains and/or hosting plans, pay close attention to make sure you know that they are from the people you are doing business with, and not a scam artist trying to steal your identity, your domain name, or your money. Most Affordable Christian Web Host
It's been a while since I researched what other companies are charging for webhosting, so I decided to spend the last couple of hours searching for as many other Christian web hosts as I could find. If you're in the process of looking for a Christian based web host to serve your church, ministry, or Christian business, be prepared to spend some time researching your options. In this post, I'll answer some of your commonly asked questions about MB, GB, storage and transfer, and I'll also provide you with the prices that I found during my searching. My intent is not that you would just "take my word for it," but that this information would provide a starting point for you as you search for the host that will best meet the needs of your church or Christian ministry. What is MB and GB? MB stands for Megabytes (or megs), and GB stands for Gigabytes (or gigs). These are units which measure the size of your files. There are 1024 bytes in a Kilobyte, 1024KB in a Megabyte, and 1024 Megabites in a Gigabyte. Each week I upload a 20 minute sermon audio file that utilizes about 10MB. The old floppy diskettes held 1.44MB, a CD-ROM holds 700MB, and a DVD-ROM holds 4.7GB. What is storage? Storage is the amount of space you have available to you on the server. Whether these files are linked to your website or simply stored there to be accessed by FTP, whenever you upload files, they take up some of the space in your account. Our economy hosting plan includes 5GB of hosting space. What is data transfer, traffic, or bandwidth? Different hosts use different words to refer to the same basic concept. Data transfer refers to the amount of data that can be moved to or from your server during a given month. For example, if I have 1,000 downloads of a 10MB audio file during a month, then I've used 10,000MB (or 10GB) of data transfer. Our economy hosting plan includes 250GB of data transfer each month. How much storage and transfer do I need? Every ministry is going to have different needs, depending on what they plan to do with their website. If you're primarily going to host text, then you don't need as much space as you would if you plan on hosting photos, audio, or even video. Consider what you plan to have available on your website, and start tallying how much space you think it will need. Then, consider how many visitors you hope to have each month, and what percentage of your site you expect them to download, and then you have a bandwidth projection. What sort of prices did you find in your research? | | | |
